Scope & Agreement
Where these terms begin, how they interact with the GPL, and the nature of the service.
These Terms of Use ("Terms") constitute an agreement between you and the Arsenal project (maintained by Kanishka Wijesuriya).
They govern your access to and use of the website get-arsenal.com, download services, and the signed Windows update feed.
Software Rights Stem from the GPL
Your rights to run, copy, modify, audit, and redistribute the Arsenal Windows desktop application are granted exclusively by the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. These Terms do not, and legally cannot, restrict, narrow, or override the freedoms guaranteed by the GPL. If any provision on this website is found to contradict the GPL regarding the Windows application, the GPL shall control and the contradictory statement here shall be null and void.
Free Community Project
Arsenal is provided completely free of charge. There are no paid tiers, no premium subscriptions, no advertising models, and no customer support contracts. While community assistance is available via GitHub issues, there is no service level agreement (SLA) or formal commitment to provide troubleshooting or patches.
Direct Hardware & Firmware Operations
Arsenal commands reach physical silicon, power delivery, and embedded controllers.
Real Hardware Changes, Real Physical Consequences
Arsenal is not a superficial Windows theme or cosmetic skin. It interfaces directly with the low-level ASUS ACPI WMI driver (\\.\ATKACPI, root\wmi) and writes directly to Embedded Controller (EC) registers — the exact same hardware pathways used by vendor diagnostics and firmware tools.
When you adjust sliders or toggle modes in Arsenal, you are instructing laptop firmware and silicon to change how electricity, clocks, and fans operate.
Processor Power Limits & Boost Behavior
Arsenal allows you to customize processor Sustained Power Limits (SPL / PL1), Slow Package Power Tracking (sPPT / PL2), and Fast Package Power Tracking (fPPT). These limits govern the continuous and burst wattage delivered to the CPU:
- Elevated limits can produce sustained high component temperatures, fan noise, and increased thermal stress on motherboard VRMs (Voltage Regulator Modules).
- Reduced limits reduce thermal output and fan speeds at the expense of computational performance.
Voltage Tuning & Curve Optimizer
Negative voltage offsets (AMD Curve Optimizer or Intel Undervolting) reduce the electrical voltage delivered to processor cores at specific frequency points. While successful undervolting lowers temperatures and improves efficiency:
- Transient instability: An unstable undervolt may pass synthetic heavy-load benchmarks for hours, but crash spontaneously during sudden load drops, idle states, or system wake.
- Crash risks: Unstable voltage offsets result in immediate kernel panics (BSOD), Machine Check Exceptions (WHEA errors), or instant power-offs, resulting in the loss of unsaved work or potential file system corruption.
Custom Fan Curves & Thermal Ceilings
Arsenal writes custom 8-point temperature-to-percentage fan tables directly into the Embedded Controller fan registers. If you calibrate fan curves with flat, low-RPM profiles to maintain silence under sustained gaming or rendering workloads:
- Heat accumulates faster than the cooling apparatus can dissipate it.
- The processor and GPU will engage thermal throttling, reducing clock speeds drastically.
- If internal temperatures reach critical silicon safety thresholds (typically 100–105°C), the hardware will trigger an emergency shutdown to prevent permanent silicon damage.
GPU Switching & Hardware Multiplexer (MUX)
Arsenal supports dynamic graphics modes with distinct hardware implications:
- Eco Mode: Executes ACPI commands to cut electrical power completely to the discrete GPU (dGPU). The dGPU is detached from the PCIe bus and does not consume battery power.
- Standard Mode: Keeps the dGPU powered with NVIDIA Optimus dynamically routing graphics through the integrated GPU.
- Ultimate Mode: Commands the internal hardware multiplexer (MUX) switch to route the laptop display panel directly to the dedicated GPU. Ultimate Mode requires a complete system restart because the display pipeline cannot be physically altered while the graphics driver is active.
Firmware Persistence Across Restarts & Uninstallation
Several settings applied by Arsenal — specifically the ASUS Battery Health charging threshold (e.g. 80%), active performance modes, and panel overdrive — are written directly to the Embedded Controller and non-volatile hardware registers.
Important: These settings remain active in your machine even if Arsenal is closed, when the laptop is rebooted, or after Arsenal has been completely uninstalled from Windows. To revert them, you must adjust them in Arsenal, within official vendor software, or by performing an EC/BIOS reset.
User Responsibilities & Safe Tuning
Every silicon chip is unique. You decide what to apply to your machine.
Because of natural manufacturing variance ("the silicon lottery"), identical laptop models from the same production batch have different voltage tolerances and thermal characteristics. A Curve Optimizer offset or power limit that operates stably on someone else's machine may cause instant crashes on yours.
Safe Operating Recommendations
- Change one setting at a time: Isolate changes so that if instability occurs, the responsible parameter is immediately obvious.
- Do not auto-apply untested offsets: Ensure an undervolt or power profile is thoroughly tested across multiple days of varied workloads before enabling "Apply on startup".
- Read documentation before using Advanced controls: Familiarize yourself with the Advanced documentation and the Troubleshooting guide before adjusting platform power limits.
- Maintain regular backups: Maintain regular backups of important documents and files. Do not perform aggressive hardware tuning when working with unsaved critical data.
ASUS Manufacturer Warranty & Support Boundaries
Independent software with no official manufacturer affiliation.
Arsenal is an independent open-source project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, certified by, or supported by ASUSTeK Computer Inc. ASUS customer service and technical support representatives did not develop Arsenal and cannot assist you with issues arising from its use.
Manufacturer Warranty Considerations
Arsenal interacts with your laptop using standard, documented, and reverse-engineered ASUS WMI methods. It does not flash custom or unsigned BIOS ROMs, nor does it replace digitally signed UEFI firmware.
However, whether user-applied overclocking, undervolting, or third-party hardware tuning affects your manufacturer warranty is governed exclusively by your purchase contract and warranty terms with ASUS. This project makes no guarantees or assurances regarding ASUS's warranty policies.
Website & Update Feed Terms
Acceptable use of the web service, downloads, and automated feeds.
Acceptable Use
You may access get-arsenal.com to read documentation, download released software, and allow your installed copies of Arsenal to query the signed update feed (/api/v1/windows/stable.json).
You agree not to:
- Attempt to probe, scan, breach, or compromise the server infrastructure.
- Execute denial-of-service (DoS) attacks or transmit automated requests at an abusive rate.
- Scrape or mirror the update feed in a manner designed to bypass cryptographic signature verification.
Release Immutability
Once an official release version is published with its declared SHA-256 checksum and digital signature, that package file is immutable. Any subsequent bug fix or modification will always be published as a newly incremented version number, ensuring package verification remains permanently reliable.
Disclaimer of Warranties ("AS IS")
